What’s our business?

Our business is to market real estate projects, especially for developers and to obtain for them the maximum obtainable price. It’s not about what they might get in a year; or getting close to what they can get today. Our ability to create the urgency and competitiveness between buyers in todays real estate marketplace will always achieve the highest price for our clients.

Who are our clients?

Our clients are real estate developers and those real estate portfolio owners who want to reduce the traditional marketing period for a specific project. We accomplish this within a short time span of six to eight weeks, instead of six months to a year, while maximizing the portfolio’s value.


Who We Are

RTA is a partnership made up of some of North America’s most successful real estate marketing companies with over 200 years of combined experience in diversified real estate markets.

Our Principals developed and refined Accelerated Marketing over decades. At its core, Accelerate Marketing involves a crafted multi-platform project marketing campaign, a tightly co-ordinated sales event and a post-transaction follow up campaign.

R Thomas Ashley was formed as a bespoke Accelerated Marketing firm. Its Principals have not only defined the industry but have also sold more real estate (by value) through this technology than has anyone else.


Larry W. Latham

For over 40 years Larry Latham has been a leader in changing business paradigms. These have included the Department of Defense, Federal Communication Commission, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Veterans Administration, US Customs, US Treasury, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac, Bank of America, Chase Manhattan, UBS, Citibank, Barclays, Credit Suisse, and the Treasury of Mexico. Contracts awarded to The Latham Companies resulted in the sale of over one hundred and fifty thousand (150,000) residential properties and tens of billions of dollars in commercial real estate assets. Latham developed the bidding platform, which was used by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) in auctioning billions of dollars of new cellular phone frequencies (electromagnetic spectrum auctions). He partnered with Cantor Fitzgerald to establish the first electronic-bidding platform to sell loans and financial instruments. Latham created Homebid.com which is believed to be the first real estate based, Internet Auction Company in the World. Larry is the co-author of the book, SOLD! The Professional’s Guide to Real Estate Auctions, and has authored numerous articles on the auction method of marketing. In July 2009, he was inducted into the National Auctioneers Association “Hall of Fame”.

C. Hunter Milborne

Hunter Milborne is widely recognised as one of the leading real estate practitioners in Canada. Through his firm, Milborne Real Estate Inc., he has marketed and sold more than $25bn of real estate, being more than 100,000 units. He brings more than four decades of real estate selling experience and expertise to R Thomas Ashley.

He has worked on the full spectrum of real estate projects from vacation homes to high-density multi-use developments in locations across the world. That said, he commands a significant share of real estate sales in his home market of Toronto – at about 12%-15%, making him the most dominant force in Canada’s condo sector.

He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, regularly speaks at conferences and universities and is a keen supporter of several leading charities including the Sick Kids Foundation.

Diane McAveeney

Diane M. McAveeney is a principal partner and Chief Strategy Officer of R Thomas Ashley. Diane is heading up the company’s expansion into new markets globally. She is charged with helping to formulate, communicate, and facilitate RTA’s plans for future growth. Diane’s experience in real estate sales and development includes providing advisory and asset management deposition strategies for accelerated marketing and live auctions. As a global and versatile business executive with 15 years of extensive accomplishments, Ms. McAveeney brings a unique combination of strategic and thought leadership in product development, sales, corporate and business strategies, and operational excellence. Diane also designs, models, and implements bespoke globalization solutions for multilingual products and services for clients ranging from start-ups to large enterprise companies. Ms. McAveeney serves as Executive Vice President, Americas & Asia at TheBigWord. Diane has held senior management positions as Senior VP, Business Solutions and Global Markets, Jonckers Translation & Engineering. Managing Director, Moravia IT, NA. International Director of Sales & Marketing at Bowne & Co. and Executive Vice President, Business Development, Larry Latham Auctioneers. Diane holds a B.S. in Mass Communication, Emerson College, concentration in Film, Television, and Media. She was Awarded Emerson Evvy Award, Most Creative Programming.

Saqib Iqbal Qureshi

Saqib is also managing partner of Building Capital, a real estate development firm in Toronto. Specialising in developing student housing, the firm has developed and sold four projects with a total of 1,050 bedrooms and is currently developing a further 2,000 student housing bedrooms in Southern Ontario and Florida.

Before establishing Building Capital, Saqib has worked at The Financial Times, HSBC Investment Bank, McKinsey & Co and the government of Dubai. Saqib completed his undergraduate and PhD degrees from the London School of Economics. He has also authored “Reconstructing Strategy: Dancing with the God of Objectivity”.


Robert E. Shapiro

Robert E. Shapiro is also CEO of Waterford Development, which he co-founded in 1995. Waterford has developed and or sold over 500 condominium units, 10 hotels, 1,000 luxury apartment units, 500,000 square feet of office space and 200 single-family homes.

Before that, Robert served as President of Eastern Operations of Larry Latham Auctioneers. The company sold over $500m of commercial and residential real estate for the FDIC, RTC, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, HUD and financial institutions including Bank of Boston, Shawmut Bank, and First NH Bank.

He also serves as the Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Greater New England Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He is a licensed real estate broker and a graduate of Emory University.


J. Murph Yule

J. Murph Yule is also President of JMY Consulting Services. Founded by Murph in 1991, it provides resort and hospitality financial services and real estate analysis. It also advises on asset planning, marketing and disposition strategies. Murph has a particular focus on destination resorts and has worked in North America, New Zealand and Europe.

Previously Murph served as SVP of The Finch Group, Inc., a real estate development firm; and was an Economic Development Specialist in Massachusetts. Murph has lectured at conferences and universities, including the Harvard Graduate School of Design and the MIT Real Estate and Urban Planning Schools.

Murph is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and the London School of Economics and is a licensed Real Estate Broker.

Risk Mitigation

Going beyond traditional disposition offers an opportunity to mitigate financial risks by selling assets faster, resulting in higher net returns. By disposing of assets earlier through our alternative approach, our clients avoid spending capital on traditional home preservation and property management expenses.
